The Fund for Scientific Research-FNRS (FNRS) is a research funding agency that promotes and supports basic supports basic research in the universities based on the Brussels-Wallonia Federation (BWF) of Belgium. The Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.-FNRS) is a research funding agency that promotes and supports basic scientific research in the Brussels-Wallonia Federation of Belgium. The FNRS is a private foundation of public interest. The Fund supports individual researchers on the basis of the criterion of excellence by offering temporary and permanent positions; funding to research teams; grants and credits for international collaboration and scientific prizes. It fosters research in all scientific fields, following a bottom-up approach of investigator-driven research. The evaluation process is fully transparent and done by national and international independent experts .Also, the Fund supports researchers in an ever growing context of internationalisation through facilitating their mobility, allowing for collaborative transnational projects and supporting a high-level international working environment.In 2006, the FNRS has been appointed as a National Contact Point (NCP) within the European Union's Research Framework Programme FP7. This role was renewed and extended under the new Framework Programme Horizon 2020. The Fund now hosts NCPs for the Excellent Science Pillar, the Societal Challenges Pillar and other horizontal and cross-cutting activities. Moreover, the FNRS is currently involved in a variety of European initiatives and bilateral agreements at the international level. The Fund is full partner in several ERA-Nets and associate partner some Joint programming Initiatives. Its aim is to increase successful participation of its researchers in Horizon 2020.Dr. Ir. Véronique Halloin is the Secretary-General of F.R.S.-FNRS since October 2008.
